But, you might want to once you hear about its benefits!

More women (and men) have been turning on the red light in their bedrooms lately, and it has nothing to do with sex work. This incredible red light therapy can work wonders for your skin, providing a deep, reparative treatment from within.

Furry Rats

This discovery was accidentally stumbled upon by Dr. Endre Mester in 1967. He was attempting to replicate the results of Paul McGuff’s tumor-shrinking experiments on rats with ruby laser, instead using low-level laser light.

While Dr. Mester had no luck with his low-power laser beam, he noticed increased fur growth and accelerated wound healing in the rats he was studying.

Unlike other forms of light, these wavelengths don’t generate heat and can penetrate the skin 1-2 mm deep. By targeting the cell’s mitochondria, they boost the transport of electrons, increase oxygen consumption, and enhance levels of ATP.

Mitochondria are like powerhouses for our cells. They generate the chemical energy that our cells need to function and stay healthy. When our mitochondria are strong and functioning well, our cells can work more efficiently and even repair and rejuvenate themselves.

If that brief biology lesson means nothing, you might be more interested in knowing what strong, repaired, and rejuvenated cells can do for you (besides making you look like a furry rat).

How about this?

Red light therapy can:

  • Increase blood flow
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Increase levels of collagen (skin elasticity, stronger bones, thicker hair)
  • Increase the level of fibroblast (generates and maintains connective tissue, keeps skin looking healthy)

In other words, red light can diminish wrinkles and improve the look and feel of your skin.

But it goes even further than that. Based on research, physicians and scientists have discovered other benefits, such as:

  • Lessening the side effects for people going through cancer treatment
  • Regrowing hair for people with androgenic alopecia
  • Reducing near-sightedness
  • Improve symptoms of psoriasis
  • Heal burn scars
  • Improve neural function and protection for people with Alzheimer’s

Where Can You Get Red Light Therapy?

Spas, clinics, and tanning salons offer red light therapy. Price ranges are about $30-$90 and each session lasts 20 minutes. You would attend ten weekly sessions and then regular follow-ups.

However, if that’s not your thing, there are online options that are cost-effective and convenient. Although they may not be as powerful as in-office treatments, they still deliver results. After doing some research, I chose the Hooga HG Series (pictured above). It has all the features I want, and it falls within my budget.

Achieve optimum results by dedicating just 10 minutes of your day to sitting in front of your device. For me, it’s a perfect time for my morning meditation, prayers, planning my day, etc.

I’ve definitely noticed an improvement. A while back, I got a really bad sunburn on my chest. And guess what? It happened again a few years later, and it was so red it almost looked purple. Yikes!

I also had severe hip pain for weeks, so I set up my light to hit my hip while I got ready for work. It took a couple of days, but my pain is gone.

If you’re looking for a way to improve the appearance of your skin but don’t have the time or money for expensive spa treatments, consider purchasing a red light. Just don’t put it in the window.
